BRITT HUME, PLEASE COME BACK! AMERICA NEEDS YOU! HOW ABOUT DOING A WEEKLY PROGRAM OF DIALOGUE WITH CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER? THAT WOULD BE A REAL PROGRAM

I don’t know about you, but I find it more and more difficult to watch the news on television. Difficult for a variety of reasons. First of all, the main stream media, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, et al became so biased back when The Anointed One announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States that an intelligent person, and I consider myself reasonably intelligent, had to suspend his powers of critical analysis in order to sit through their news programs. The only source of “fair and balanced” reporting was Fox News Channel. But even on Fox I could take only so much of Hannity and Colmes, Bill O’Reilly, Sheppard Smith,, Greta Van Susskind, and the other hosts. Only Britt Hume’s SPECIAL REPORT was consistently worth watching.

After the November 5 election confirmed that The Anointed One would be free to effect the transformation of America from a Democratic Constitutional Republic into a Socialist Authoritarian State, it seemed to me that Britt Hume increasingly began to show signs of disillusionment, disgust, and loss of enthusiasm for his work of hosting the program, SPECIAL REPORT. My worst fears were realized when he announced that he would be leaving full-time anchoring on Fox.

The story below by Richard Huff reported Britt’s decision last October:

FOX News anchor Brit Hume said Wednesday the reason he'll step down from a day job at the top-rated cable network is that he's lost his enthusiasm for the work.

Hume, as previously announced, will leave his nightly show "Special Report" and become a contributor to FNC at an undetermined point after the election.

"One of the reasons why I think it's the right thing for me to dial back," Hume told reporters yesterday, "is the absolute indispensable ingredient for being any good in this business is enthusiasm.

"If you look at a guy like [CBS News'] Mike Wallace, who worked up until his 80s - never lost his enthusiasm," Hume added. "I've started to lose mine. This stuff exhausts me as much as it excites me. I'm just kind of tired of doing it."

Hume has been at Fox since 1996 and covering politics since 1976, when he was named ABC's Washington correspondent. He was ABC's chief White House correspondent from 1989 until he left for the then-upstart news network.

"When we first started the Fox News Channel, I knew the toughest problem would be to have credibility for a new network," Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes said yesterday, adding that Hume was the person he needed to give FNC instant credibility.

"He's been a real pillar for the Fox News Channel," Ailes added.

Hume said the news business has changed dramatically since he started following politics. There's more and faster-moving news, he said, which can be good and bad.

The downside is that it creates a fog around a campaign in which it's hard to take a moment and consider how a particular issue is going to be played, what it means or what the reaction may be.

"The fog has been particularly hard on me this year," he said.

He said he'll miss covering the major events, but that given the loss of enthusiasm he's noted over time, it's the right moment to leave.

"There are other things I want to do in my life. I didn't use to have grandchildren, now I do, and it's the purest love I've ever known, and I want to spend more time with them.

"I also want try to pursue my spiritual life, my walk with Christ, and do better in that than I ever have," he added. "It's something that really came to me when my son died 10 years ago, and it's been a big part of my life since."

Hume said he has no idea who will replace him on "Special Report," but he thinks it's good for senior staffers to move on and give others a chance to move up.

"I think the worst thing you can do is hang on, and be hanging on when you've lost your fastball," he said, "and you're kind of not good anymore."
