The Less-Known Side of Carly Fiorina’s Life

.
From the first Morning Jolt of the week: What You Probably Don’t Know About Carly Fiorina
.
You’re hearing it already: If Carly Fiorina gets the nomination or is on the ticket, they’ll play the Romney card against her: She’s wealthy, she’s out-of-touch, she’s laid people off, she’s this heartless, soulless embodiment of corporate greed.
.
In the near future, you’ll probably hear some Democrat – or perhaps a Republican rival – suggest, “Carly Fiorina’s been living the high life in corporate corner offices for a long time; she has no idea what real life is like for everyone else.”
.
Perhaps at that moment, Carly Fiorina will discuss the death of her stepdaughter, Lori, who passed after years of struggling with alcoholism and drug abuse. Fiorina raised Lori from an early age, and she writes in her book, Rising to the Challenge: In the midst of all this, on October 12, 2009, that we learned of Lori’s death. For the second time in nine months, time stopped. We had spent the last months of her life desperately trying to intervene with her doctors to make sure they understood the depths of her illness. Because of the way privacy laws are written, we couldn’t learn anything from Lori’s doctors that she didn’t want us to know.
.
Finally, we found a doctor who kindly told us she could listen, although she could not tell us anything. But by then it was too late. I have thought often since then how poorly we deal with mental illness and addiction as a nation. Like Lori, those who are ill frequently fight against help. Medical privacy laws, although perhaps well intentioned, make it easier for an addict to continue down a destructive path.
.
These laws make it very difficult for those who worry that a loved one is a danger to themselves or others to get the help so desperately needed. They also make it difficult for concerned physicians to raise a warning flag. And criminalizing addictions, or minimizing the devastating impact of mental illness on friends and communities, only makes these problems worse.
.
We had pleaded with Lori to move closer to her family in those last months. But as many addicts do, she literally ran away from the people trying to help her. She insisted on moving to New Jersey. In my last conversation with her on the phone, I begged her again to let us get her help. She put me off. Not all I could think of, staring at the policemen standing in my living room, was what else I could have done to save her.
.
That reference to “the second time in nine months” was a reference to Carly’s cancer diagnosis. (Tell me again how she doesn’t know tough times.) Every Republican candidate is going to argue against Obamacare’s changes. But she’s going to have a unique perspective: Many long days and multiple scans, MRIs and mammograms later, we finally had a more definitive diagnosis: it was breast cancer, stage II.
.
It hadn’t been detected in the mammogram I had had weeks earlier, because the tumor in my left breast was very small. At the same time, the cancer was very aggressive and had spread to lymph nodes that are not captured in a mammogram. It was, without a doubt, a very close call. Later, after Obamacare was passed, the Health and Human Services Administration changed the protocol for breast cancer screening. They recommended that women get a mammogram every other year and that they not do self-examinations.
.
The Obama administration had concluded that this change in protocol would minimize false alarms and cost. I remember being insulted when HHS justified these changes by saying the old protocol caused too much trauma and concern. Women are tough. We can handle it. I remember thinking that if I had followed this protocol, I would probably be dead.
.
Republicans usually do particularly poorly in polls that ask whether the candidate “understands the problems of people like you.” Fiorina’s going to have compelling personal stories to tell when she needs to emphasize that she knows what it’s like to go through tough times.

LET US SEE MORE OF TIM TEBOW; AMERICA NEEDS HEROES (TOM BRADY, GET LOST !)

!!!!

For Tim Tebow, a Touchdown and the Philadelphia Eagles Fans’ Adulation

THE NEW YORK TIMES

There were seven minutes left in the third quarter when the Philadelphia fans began to cheer on Sunday. Then they cheered louder. And then they stood.
.
At a meaningless preseason game. All for a player who had not taken a snap in two years and was battling to be the third-string quarterback.
.
Short of a comeback from the 52-year-old Randall Cunningham, there is only one man who could have elicited that reaction from the normally tough Eagles fans. Tim Tebow, of course.
The noise was so loud that Tebow had to ask the fans for quiet so he could call a snap from the shotgun, an action more associated with big moments in playoff games than with football in August.
After completing his first four passes, all for first downs, Tebow wound up 6 for 12 for 69 yards. He drew another ovation when he dove into end zone for a 7-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Eagles’ 36-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He was also sacked twice.
“Today was just one more step,” Tebow, 28, told the NFL Network. “Trying to learn the offense. Get out here the first time live bullets are flying.”
“I liked how Timmy threw it,” Eagles Coach Chip Kelly told The Associated Press.
“Tee-bow! Tee-bow!” commented the Philadelphia fans.
Three of the Eagles somewhat motley collection of quarterbacks played.
The season’s expected starter, Sam Bradford, acquired in March from the St. Louis Rams in a surprising trade for the Eagles’ 2014 starter, Nick Foles, was held out after missing last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
.
The Eagles No. 2, the former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, did not especially impress, completing 2 of 7 passes for 52 yards. Perhaps ominously for Tebow, the player he is most likely battling for the No. 3 spot, Matt Barkley, did well, going 12 for 20 for 192 yards and one interception.
All these perfomances must be taken with a grain of salt, as the game, like most exhibitions, was populated by backups playing at less than full throttle.
.
Tebow first made a name for himself with a Heisman Trophy in 2007 and national championships at Florida in 2006 and 2008. The attention was magnified because of his overt Christian faith.

Tim Tebow’s Debut With Eagles

As a pro, Tebow had one big season, 2011 with the Denver Broncos. Replacing an ineffective Kyle Orton after five games, Tebow repeatedly seemed to underachieve for three quarters, while the Broncos’ stout defense kept the game close, then pull off a miracle in the last minutes.
Opinions were sharply divided over whether these late heroics were the result of a gritty winning mentality or just luck.
.
Despite a dramatic playoff win over the Steelers, the Broncos signed Peyton Manning, and Tebow’s time was up. He threw eight passes as Sanchez’s backup with the Jets, appeared in a couple of preseason games for the Patriots, then left the game, most people thought, for good.
When Kelly, often the iconoclast, signed Tebow for this season, it raised a few eyebrows. Speculation was rampant.
 .
Though his career passing numbers are not sensational, Tebow has always had great rushing ability, and is especially dangerous around the end zone. His 57 rushing touchdowns in college ranks fourth all-time among quarterbacks. He had 12 rushing touchdowns in his two seasons in Denver, trailing only Cam Newton over that period.
.
When the N.F.L. was considering moving the line of scrimmage for a 2-point conversion to the 1-yard line, some suggested Kelly’s master plan was to make Tebow into a conversion specialist.
In the end, the league did not change the rule, but Kelly is a fan of the 2-pointer, and Tebow may still get that role.
.
A football season is unpredictable. Bradford has had injury problems, and could run into trouble again. Sanchez could be ineffective. There is a chance that Tebowmania could be revived in Philadelphia.
.
It is also possible that, as in New England two years ago, Tebow will get cut. And that will mean an end to the very brief era of preseason standing ovations.

THE MADNESS OF TRUMP TRUMPS REASON THIS ELECTION CYCLE

!!!!

THUNDERDOME: THAT’S A CLOWN WHITE PAPER BRO:

Yesterday Future Greatest American President Donald Trump unveiled his first major policy white paper, concerning the only policy subject on which he has weighed in repeatedly: those damn dirty Mexicans. http://vlt.tc/21zj  It is a perfect example of what Scott Adams has described as Trump’s clown genius ability to use intentional exaggeration to provide anchors for your brain, and persuade your subsconscious to think things you would never originally think. http://vlt.tc/21zy  For instance, Trump’s plan involves the deportation of millions of people, the seizure of money sent back to Mexico by illegal immigrants, and an end to birthright citizenship. Nowhere in this white paper is the how of what Trump would do addressed. Not the massive new hiring of a force to displace millions of people; not the invasion of privacy necessary for the government to open every parcel sent to Mexico and investigate every wire transfer sent there or elsewhere lest the source be illegal; not the fact that ending birthright citizenship will require a Constitutional amendment. Trump’s white paper just says he will do it in three sentences, one of which is “End birthright citizenship.”

The understanding that children born here in America, even those born to non-Americans, are citizens dates back to the Founding generation, which was of course full of people who were not as wise as Mr. Trump. Those losers had no idea the sort of carnage their dumb ideas would unleash. Perhaps their own glorious triumph over the dirty brown people they encountered gave them false confidence about protecting our jobs.

It’s understandable given Trump’s identity politics play that he would continue on this line of thought – that terrible immigrants are destroying our economy, and terrible children of illegal immigrants are so burdening our social services that they, even as legal American citizens because of the stupid Constitution, must be deported along with their families. Of course, ending birthright citizenship would create European-style generational ghettos in American communities. (What's next, Donald: is Kraftwerk going to play "Hail to the Chief" at your inauguration?) And as you’ll see in this video, it does contrast quite a bit with the policies of Republican presidents. http://vlt.tc/1ye5  But then, Trump is not a Republican.

The more interesting question I have is what Trump thinks of the birthright citizens – those born to people who were not yet U.S. citizens, but simply by their place of birth have the right to stand and claim to be Americans – who are unfairly displacing and taking the jobs of real Americans without any sense of remorse.

People like this guy, Marco Rubio. His parents weren’t citizens when he was born in Florida and yet he calls himself an American. Can you believe it? He even stole his Senate job from a really classy orange white American like Charlie Crist.

Or this guy, Bobby Jindal. What a dummy he is with all his fancy degrees from terrible non-American institutions like Oxford instead of big brain schools like Wharton. His parents weren’t citizens yet either, they were just here on student visas for six months. Six months! So they knew they were going to have their kid, so they came to America and they did it on purpose. He’s stolen a governor job from a real red-blooded American like William Jefferson who hid his cash in his fridge just like any normal guy.

Or there’s this guy, Jose Hernandez, a child of illegals who joined NASA. Look at that stupid face! Like anyone who comes from South of the Border born to illegal field hands could be an astronaut. What is he going to do, put a Mexican flag on the moon? He took that job from some good Midwesterner like a thief. The international space station is not a sanctuary city, dummy!

Or this guy, this terrible guy disrespecting a flag, Henry Cejudo. He stole an Olympic slot from some good Iowa wrestler and won a gold medal. He doesn’t deserve that medal as an American! He shouldn’t be here! Look at him cry like a baby. What a loser!

And then there’s this lady, who somehow got to be a senior U.S. Circuit Court judge, despite the fact that when she was born in Queens in 1937, her mom was still a Scottish immigrant who was not an American citizen! Can you believe it? Not classy at all. She took this job from someone born to Americans!

Actually, wait, that’s Maryanne Trump.

As in, Donald Trump’s sister.

Ah.

What a shame that Donald Trump’s father was so disrespectful of American women as to marry a non-American citizen. And sadly Trump himself inherited that tendency. Ivana Trump wasn’t an American citizen until 1988. His children from his first marriage – Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric – were all birthed by a non-American! Can you believe Donald Trump would take advantage of birthright citizenship that way? Mr. Trump must have been a very different person back then.

Of course, at the end of the day, Ivana was just taking on a job Americans would not do.

MACHIAVELLI IS THE INSPIRATION FOR TRUMP'S CANDIDACY

!!!!

LIKE FOUR PEAS IN A POD

Hillary’s Secret Weapon: Trump

Before Trump entered the presidential race, he and Bill Clinton chatted. That’s made some in the GOP suspicious. Also, what the jobs numbers portend.

.
Machiavelli lives!
.
[emphasis by Leo Rugiens in red typeface]
.
Or maybe it’s Big Mac-iavelli. That would be former President Bill Clinton, who was known for his fondness for stopping at McDonald’s during his jogs in his days in the White House. While he has eschewed such unhealthy fare since his heart surgery in 2004, the name still fits.
.
It emerged last week that the former president had a telephone chat last May with none other than Donald Trump. That was just before the bombastic billionaire decided to toss his hat (and the mop that resides beneath it) into the Republican presidential ring—and not long after Hillary Clinton made her long-awaited official announcement to seek the Democratic nomination, the Washington Post reported.
.
It wasn’t unusual for Mr. Bill and The Donald to phone each other about such topics as golf and donations to the Clinton Foundation. But, according to sources quoted by the paper, the latter was “candid about his political ambitions and his potential interest in seeking the White House during the talk.” The former president didn’t urge him to run, but was curious about his plans, the report added.
.
The Donald’s consorting with the other side raised eyebrows, if not hackles, among some of his GOP rivals, notably former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. “I didn’t get a phone call from Bill Clinton before I jumped into the race. Did any of you get a call from Bill Clinton?” she asked her fellow participants in the not-ready-for-prime-time undercard prior to the main event on Thursday evening, the debate of the top 10 GOP contenders in the polls.
.
To my devilishly clever wife, the scheme was obvious (although not to her slow-witted hubby). Bill would induce The Donald to run to ensure Hillary’s victory. Either he would be the GOP nominee and the easiest opponent for her to defeat, or he would mount a third-party campaign and ensure a Democratic victory—just as Ross Perot had done for Bill in 1992.
.
It turns out that notion had also occurred to Brent Budowsky, a D.C. veteran. In an opinion piece in The Hill, he asked, “Is Trump a Clinton Plant?”
.
Budowsky checked off the list of possible aims of such a ploy, such as providing a stream of outrageous sound bites from Trump that the Dems could use later; offending Hispanics, who would be a vital bloc for the GOP to win; deflecting attention from bright new stars in the party, such as Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Check, check, and check.
.
“Of course, the grand slam for Hillary Clinton would be if Donald Trump were to run as a third-party candidate in 2016,” Budowsky wrote. And right at the outset of Thursday’s debate, Trump alone raised his hand to declare that he would not necessarily support the eventual Republican presidential nominee or would eschew an independent White House run.
.
The Donald later managed to add the entire female gender to the list of those he has offended with his demeaning treatment of Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly and her question about his description of some women. And he seemed rather defensive about the bankruptcy filings by entities bearing his name, calling it merely using the law to his advantage.
.
Veteran Washington watcher Greg Valliere of Potomac Research Group summed up The Donald’s evening: “Entertaining and riveting, but let’s be blunt—Trump was a cringe-inducing embarrassment. First Hispanics, then veterans, now women—who will he alienate next? Republicans! Trump won’t agree to support the GOP nominee, and his descent now begins, perhaps as rapid as his ascent?”
.
Greg’s scoring on the rest of the field: former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, adequate, “but a quart low on energy.” Walker wasn’t hurt, but suspicion remains he’s not ready to be president. Dr. Ben Carson—over his head most of the night, but a strong finish. Ohio Gov. John Kasich, the hometown favorite at the Cleveland event, “helped himself. He’s the one Republican that Democrats really like—and that’s a kiss of death.”
The best moment may have been the face-off between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky over the NSA, with the decision going to the former. Greg called Christie one of the big surprises,—“crisp, but poised, forceful but not bullying.” Paul’s campaign meanwhile “has been in free-fall” and his performance on Thursday didn’t help. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz showed he will be the anti-establishment candidate for months to come—especially as Trump implodes.
.
As for the winners, Greg has asserted that Rubio is “the greatest talent in the race” and “helped himself tremendously” in the debate. And former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was “polished and assertive” and could surprise in the Iowa caucuses. Meanwhile, he says, Fiorina “clearly belongs on the big stage,” while it’s time to stick a fork into former Texas Gov. Rick Perry—“he’s done”—along with South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and former Sen. Rick Santorum.
.
Trump remains at the top of the leader board, for now. Nothing he said or did probably flipped many of his foes or did much to deter those in his camp who are attracted by his bluster. Neither are the latter likely to be put off by his flip-flops from previous Democrat leanings, from contributing to the Clintons as well as to Ted Kennedy and former Rep. Anthony Weiner (whose name remains a punchline), to support for abortion rights and a single-payer health-care system.
.
So, if The Donald does manage to get on the November 2016 presidential ballot, either as the GOP standard bearer or as a third-party insurgent, it would seem the Democrats—whom he formerly supported—would be the big beneficiaries.
.
Big Mac-iavelli, celebrate with a salad.

MAN SURVIVES A NARROW ESCAPE FROM A HUGE, VISCIOUS, GORILLA !!!!

!!!!

Wildlife Experts Say Not Climbing Into Gorilla Enclosure Likely Saved Man’s Life

Experts say Fulton’s chances of survival increased the longer he stayed outside the gorilla habitat.
.
.

ST. LOUIS—Based on the sheer power of the animals and their potential for extreme aggression, wildlife experts concluded Thursday that not climbing into the gorilla enclosure at the Saint Louis Zoo very likely saved 34-year-old local man Richard Fulton’s life.
.
According to stunned witnesses, Fulton was standing in front of the barrier separating him from a 370-pound male silverback gorilla at around 11:30 a.m. when he narrowly escaped certain death by choosing not to scale the exhibit wall, instead calmly observing the animal from a 10-foot distance before walking away, incredibly, without so much as a scratch.
.
“Gorillas have six times the upper-body strength of an adult male human, so if Mr. Fulton hadn’t made the split-second decision to refrain from jumping the fence and then traversing the 12-foot-wide concrete moat into the enclosure—well, we would be having a very different conversation right now,” said Marissa Feld, a primate expert at Washington University in St. Louis, who remarked that remaining entirely on the opposite side of the wall from the strong and unpredictable animal was likely the deciding factor that saved the man from a deadly mauling. “It seems counterintuitive, but by staying very still and not entering the gorilla exhibit, he actually did exactly the right thing.”
.
.
“A lot of people’s first instinct when they come face-to-face with a gorilla is to freak out and immediately climb into its habitat. It’s a completely understandable reaction, but believe it or not, that is precisely the type of behavior an eastern lowland gorilla is going to interpret as threatening.”
.
.
“No question, his quick thinking prevented a terrible tragedy,” Feld added. “He may not even realize how close he came to losing his life.”
.
Feld went on to say that Fulton’s survival had also hinged on the fact that he did not panic or make sudden movements and managed to keep himself at all times within the confines of the designated gorilla-viewing area, a decision that experts noted was exceptionally clear-headed for someone in his position.
.
“A lot of people’s first instinct when they come face-to-face with a gorilla is to freak out and immediately climb into its habitat,” Feld said. “It’s a completely understandable reaction, but believe it or not, that is precisely the type of behavior an eastern lowland gorilla is going to interpret as threatening.”
.
According to sources, upon first sighting the immense primate moving through the simulated African forest environment nearby, Fulton seemed to somehow know exactly what to do next. After carefully watching the gorilla for several minutes, he then steadily and deliberately moved toward the Great Ape House exit sign, all the while keeping the wall between himself and the wild animal.
.
“There are a lot of ways this incident might have gone very, very wrong—he could’ve hopped the barrier and provoked the great ape by walking too closely to one of its infants, or taken a startling flash photo right in its eyes, or even beaten his own chest and tried to act like a gorilla himself,” Feld said. “But whether by making crucial choices in that moment or perhaps through sheer dumb luck alone, he avoided those perils and made it out of there with his life.”
.
Remarkably, sources said that just moments after his run-in with the gorilla, Fulton avoided being mauled to death by a Bengal tiger when he didn’t put his arms through the bars of the big cat’s cage and try to pet its pretty fur.

I WILL NOT VOTE FOR BOBBY JINDAL FOR PRESIDENT, BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT I DO NOT ADMIRE HIM A LOT !!!

Jindal puts the emphasis on assimilation

by Jeff Jacoby
The Boston Globe
August 12, 2015

BOBBY JINDAL'S presidential quest may not take him all the way to the White House. But if his time on the campaign trail helps put assimilation back at the heart of the nation's immigration debate, he will have rendered his country a valuable service.
The 44-year-old governor of Louisiana was born and raised in Baton Rouge. His parents had immigrated to the United States from Punjab in northern India, and Jindal's election in 2007 made him the first Indian American chief executive of any state in US history.

.
But Jindal didn't run for governor as an Indian American, and he isn't running for president as an Indian American, either. Throughout his career he has championed the value and virtue of what used to be called "Americanization" — the patriotic integration of immigrants and their descendants into the American nation, so that they become Americans not just legally, but culturally and socially as well.
"We must insist on assimilation," Jindal said in the closing moments of the Republican "undercard" debate in Cleveland last week. "Immigration without assimilation is an invasion." A TV commercial aired in Iowa by Believe Again, a super PAC promoting Jindal for president, highlights the governor's emphasis on making immigrants into Americans.
"I am tired of hyphenated Americans," Jindal says in the ad, which features clips of a recent speech. "We're not Indian-Americans or African-Americans or Asian-Americans. We're all Americans." Instead of obsessing, as so many Republican candidates do, on the legal status of those who cross the border, Jindal emphasizes the importance of embracing the norms and mores of their new homeland. Immigrants, he declares, "should adopt our values, they should learn English, and they should roll up their sleeves and get to work."

.
For most of American history, the belief that immigration should go hand-in-hand with assimilation was all but universally shared. There were debates aplenty about the most effective means of Americanizing the foreign-born, and there have always been restrictionists who argued that immigrants from certain countries were incapable of blending into the mainstream. When the Supreme Court upheld the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1889, it accepted the government's claim that immigrants from China had "remained strangers in the land, residing apart by themselves," and that they were unlikely "to assimilate with our own people or to make any change in their habits."

.
Whatever one's views on the ideal number or nationality of immigrants, however, it was taken for granted until very recently that those who came to America should want to be American. What the conservative Jindal says on the subject in the 21st century is hardly different from what the liberal Louis Brandeis was saying a century ago. In a speech at Faneuil Hall in Boston in 1915, Brandeis argued that "the immigrant is not Americanized unless his interests and affections have become deeply rooted here" — until he comes to "possess the national consciousness of an American."
What the conservative Bobby Jindal says about the importance of assimilation today, the liberal lion Louis Brandeis was saying a century ago.
In its 1912 platform, Teddy Roosevelt's Progressive Party explicitly included immigrants in promising workers "a larger share of American opportunity," even as it pledged "to promote their assimilation, education, and advancement."

.
Americanization activities were taken up by public schools and private corporations, by nonprofit organizations and chambers of commerce. Not all assimilation programs were successful. Some relied too much on conformist pressure rather than on affectionate encouragement. But on the whole, Americans thought it only natural that immigrants should strive to become American, and immigrants of all backgrounds could feel that they were part of a single national family.

.
The rise of militant multiculturalism undermined this consensus. Today's "progressives" tend to regard the old ideal of patriotic assimilation as a form of cultural suppression. Instead of celebrating a common American culture, they pursue "diversity," and elevate racial, sexual, and ethnic identities over national identity. E pluribus unum has been turned on its head.

.
Because Jindal rejects the tribal politics that the left expects minorities to uphold, he has been attacked as an Indian Uncle Tom and mocked in a Twitter campaign linked by the hashtag #BobbyJindalIsSoWhite. "There's not much Indian left in Bobby Jindal," a University of Louisiana professor sneered to The Washington Post.

.
That might be a grievous shortcoming, were Jindal running for office in India. But he is running in his own country, which he makes no apology for loving. "My dad and mom told my brother and me that we came to America to be Americans," Jindal says. "If we wanted to be Indians, we would have stayed in India."

HILLARY CLINTON WILL BE LUCKY IF SHE IS NOT CONVICTED OF A FELONY

!!!!

Hillary Clinton’s Slow-Motion Implosion

“It is very likely,” Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed when asked by a CBS reporter if he believed the Russians and the Chinese were reading his emails. “I certainly write things with that awareness.” The Democratic Party’s elder statesman and former presidential nominee might have known that he was twisting the knife. While it was perhaps unintentional, his comments reflect an accurate assessment bubbling up from the liberal subconscious that Hillary Clinton has been irreparably damaged by the revelations regarding her scandalous conduct as Kerry’s predecessor at Foggy Bottom.

.

Hillary Clinton could have surrendered her “homebrew” email server, on which she conducted the affairs of state in violation of both State Department and White House guidelines, to a third party at any time. Indeed, that was the request of the Republican members of the House Select Committee on Benghazi. If she were so inclined, she could have rid herself of the suspicion that she had something to hide. Clinton might not have found exculpation in a third party investigation of the system that once held over 30,000 deleted emails that Clinton assured Americans were of no interest to them, she would have at least created the impression that she had belatedly embraced transparency. Instead, she dug in, closed ranks, and bristled with indignation at anyone who dared question her integrity. In the process, Clinton repeatedly misled the public and the press on matters both substantial and paltry.
Hillary Clinton could have done many things to mitigate the damage wrought to her political image by the steady stream of information about her behavior at State. Instead, in deference to the sense of entitlement her enablers have cultivated over a quarter-century, she did nothing. Now, Clinton will be forced to surrender her server to the FBI. What’s more, the email communications that were contained on a thumb drive in the care of her attorney, a man without the requisite security clearances who was deemed post hoc by the State Department to suddenly be occupying a secure information facility, must also hand over to the Feds what is in his possession.

.
This final shoe dropped after two inspectors general alleged that, not only did Clinton’s unsecure email server contain sensitive information that was marked as such at the time in which it was received, but some of that information was classified “Top Secret.” Among the communications Hillary Clinton received on her server included references to coded information and imagery obtained via secure methods. Carelessly allowing this material to be sent over an unclassified and unprotected email system is a violation of federal law. Full stop.

.
But Hillary Clinton’s privilege does not die easy. Reporters have developed a tic that compels them to assert that Hillary Clinton personally is not the subject of any federal investigation. Only her potentially unlawful conduct has captured the attention of investigators.

.
“There are several investigations into her conduct, not into her, but into her use of personal email and a personal server,” McClatchy reporter Anita Kumar told MSNBC on Wednesday. She was merely echoing a statement in her employer’s report, which averred, “Clinton, herself, is not a target.”
This is an oft-repeated refrain. The Department of Justice to which this investigation had been referred last month has repeatedly asserted, “Clinton herself is not the target of the investigation.” This transparent effort to preserve Hillary Clinton’s rapidly decaying political prospects has roiled even FBI sources.

.
“It’s definitely a criminal probe,” a source within the FBI told New York Post reporters last week. “I’m not sure why they’re not calling it a criminal probe.”
“The DOJ [Department of Justice] and FBI can conduct civil investigations in very limited circumstances,” but that’s not what this is, the source stressed. “In this case, a security violation would lead to criminal charges. Maybe DOJ is trying to protect her campaign.”
.
Maybe. Just maybe.

.
The rhetorical gymnastics required of reporters and public officials who contend that Clinton is herself not a target of an investigation is simply a marvel. It’s also supremely insulting. The contention that only Clinton’s behavior and not her gilded personage is of interest to criminal investigators is a familiar dodge. It’s of a kind with open borders immigration activists who solemnly scold the public with the contention that “people can never be illegal” and then go about high-fiving one another as if they’ve deftly scored some stylistic points. No, people are not illegal, but their behavior sometimes is. No, Hillary Clinton is not the subject of an investigation, but her reckless disregard for America’s state secrets most certainly is. Only in the minds of Clinton’s increasingly desperate defenders is this a distinction with a perceptible difference.

.
It seems likely now that the swirling controversy around Clinton’s conduct will dog her for the remainder of her presidential campaign. There will be no exculpation for her behavior – merely a slow drip of information regarding her conduct and the jeopardy in which it put American national security. Clinton’s claim to be a competent commander-in-chief is forever tarnished. Even if someone close to her were to fall on their sword, it is too late to avoid the impression that this attempt at damage control was not done at the behest of a Machiavellian political figure failing in the effort to revive her ailing career.

.
Judging from the tone of the commentary surrounding Clinton’s downfall, it seems as though political observers that they cannot believe what they are witnessing. How could it be possible that a colossus like Clinton who seemed destined to occupy the Oval Office could be undone by such a careless misstep? But in the same way that a mosquito bite can fell the strongest man if left uncared for, what was once a minor scrape for Clinton has grown gangrenous.

.
On Wednesday, a poll of New Hampshire Democrats showed that the eccentric socialist Senator Bernie Sanders has finally eclipsed Clinton. She now faces the prospect of a wounding primary and a competitive general election. If Democrats are forced to choose between advancing the liberal project and Hillary Clinton’s reputation, they will choose the former. That horrible choice was once mere hypothetical. This morning, it is all too real.

THOMAS JEFFERSON: "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? YOU HAVE ABANDONED THE CONSTITUTION !!!

!!!!

TRUMP'S DEBATE PERFORMANCE TRUMPS HIS CANDIDACY

!!!!

THUNDERDOME: STRAIGHT OUTTA TRUMPLAND:

On Friday’s radio show, I argued that Donald Trump’s closest analogue in pop culture is the Sun Eater – a creature that destroys entire worlds and universes, not out of any particular spite, but because it is what he exists to do. (The handful of listeners who responded with questions about who will be the Republican Ferro Lad, the man of metal who destroys himself to save the universe, are to be praised for their knowledge of DC comics.) http://vlt.tc/21mt  What this means is that it should be possible, as some conservatives are now seeking to do, to both loathe Trump and adore his apex of blowhard approach to the modern goat rodeo that is politics. http://vlt.tc/21mr  Whoever knew the Sweet Meteor of Death would be so entertaining when personified, or have such fine golden hair?

As Mytheos Holt writes today, this is why Trump is the perfect candidate for an age of trigger warnings, speech codes, and state-enforced political correctness. http://vlt.tc/21mo  “Since the Republican implosion in the 2012 election, much of American political discourse has centered not so much on whether particular ideas are wrong as on whether they can be expressed at all. Sometimes this approach has helped to root out genuine ideological cranks, but it’s also a style that has clearly favored the Left more than the Right. Witness the constant barrage of arguments that people who dissent from leftist causes are on the “wrong side of history,” as if history is something that can be predicted in advance like the weather… [T]he Left, high on their own success, has not just overextended this argument: it has strapped it to the rack and dislocated its limbs. The idea that certain sentiments can’t be expressed without branding you as an artifact of a dark and unenlightened past has entered the realm of self-parody.”

The problem, of course, is keeping Donald Trump’s supporters as part of the coalition of the right as he inevitably fades. At this early stage, Trump has likely already put a ceiling on how much support he can receive. But that support is real, not just an expression of anger but of disgust with the political system and the American ruling class. http://vlt.tc/21ms  How Republicans synthesize that rage and frustration into their coalition without breaking the other aspects they need to maintain in order to win is the hard part.

Where I would encourage those worried about Trump’s impact to check their anxiousness is in this basic truth: he’s not really running a campaign. He and Roger Stone couldn’t work together because Stone had the audacity to tell him internet polls aren’t real. He has a few scattered hires here and there, and he has dominated the media cycles for weeks, but media cycles aren’t the same as actually getting people to vote for you, and publicity is not synonymous with politics. In the end, the ultimate determinant in whether Trump’s presence is good or bad for the right is all about how the first question in the first debate, and how he loses. So long as Trump stays within the GOP and does not seek to take his followers elsewhere, there is little bad to come out of this for the party. It’s only if he seeks to destroy it that Republicans will have to find their Ferro Lad.

IRAN IS UPSET THAT THE ATOM BOMB WAS WASTED ON NAGASAKI INSTEAD OF ON ISRAEL

!!!!
NAGASAKI, Japan – Iran’s top diplomat has spoken out on the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, condemning the “senseless” use of nuclear weapons against a “non-Zionist country.”
.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zari made his remarks at a remembrance ceremony in Nagasaki, which he attended as an “observer of peace, as well as lingering bomb damage assessment.” He had just returned from Switzerland, where he concluded the Iranian nuclear agreement before acquiring a solid gold Lexus.
.
“Truly these atomic bombings of non-Zionist individuals were a crime without parallel,” Zari said. “No country that is not both east of the Sinai and west of the Jordan should ever have nuclear weapons dropped on it.”
.
“Even if America has not learned from its mistakes, Iran vows that never again will nuclear weapons be dropped on non-Zionist cities and non-Zionist peoples!” he added.
.
Zari further condemned the “selfish” United States, which he claimed continued to cover up vital information on the bombing, such as the ideal diameter for the plutonium core or the proper amount of tritium needed for a multi-megaton yield explosion.
.
He continued, “America must answer many questions about the atomic bombing, for example, hypothetically speaking, what would be the ideal detonating altitude to cause maximum damage and – out of curiosity – how do Japanese cities differ structurally from Israeli ones?”
.
While Zari’s remarks focused mostly on what he called “two wasted opportunities,” he also expressed amazement, saying, “These events show just what a dedicated group of scientists can accomplish, without anyone hitting them with sanctions, assassinating them, or blowing up their centrifuges.”
.
These were Zari’s first public remarks on World War II since his January visit to Auschwitz, which he condemned as “tragically inefficient.”

Don’t Be Fooled By Chuck Schumer’s Opposition To The Iran Deal

Don’t Be Fooled By Chuck Schumer’s Opposition To The Iran Deal

Schumer's opposition is tactical, not courageous!!!

THE FEDERALIST

Obama foot soldiers Tommy Vietor, Dan Pfeiffer and Jon Favreau may have made common cause with Holocaust-denying radical Twelvers hoping to obtain nuclear weapons to threaten millions of Jews, but that doesn’t mean you should be fooled by their frustration. And you definitely shouldn’t be fooled by the theater surrounding Chuck Schumer’s opposition to the president’s Iran deal.
Schumer offered a detailed, 1600-word justification for his opposition to the deal and, in the most obsequious and gentle way imaginable, pointed out an abundance of falsehoods Obama’s been peddling regarding the deal.
.
“I still believe that a negotiated solution is the best course of action,” Schumer wrote. “That’s the path I believe we should pursue.” Pfeiffer says this means Schumer wants “War with Iran,” which is the sort contemptible smear that slips so easily from the mouths of the Obama boosters these days.
The more pertinent question is: would Schumer have taken this position if he were the decisive vote or if he had any legitimate shot at helping override President Obama’s veto of a motion disapproving the deal? It seems doubtful. In fact, it seems like Schumer waited long enough to make sure his vote wouldn’t matter much, if at all. Just ponder this statement: “There are some who believe that I can force my colleagues to vote my way,” Schumer wrote in another statement. “While I will certainly share my view and try to persuade them that the vote to disapprove is the right one, in my experience with matters of conscience and great consequence like this, each member ultimately comes to their own conclusion.”
.
What does this even mean? Is there a time that politicians don’t come to their own conclusions or vote according to their own consciences? Does Schumer normally force other Senators to cast votes in a certain way? If Schumer believes Iranian hardliners are exploiting Obama’s deal to further their goal of obtaining a nuclear arsenal, and this reality is of “great consequence,” doesn’t he have a moral obligation to be a bit more persuasive—or at least as enthusiastic as he’s been on an array of far less consequential issues over the years?
.
Because, really, what costs does Schumer face if he opposes Obama on Iran but does nothing concrete to change the outcome? His constituents wouldn’t blame him for opposing a deal. No one would challenge him at home. The more people know about this deal, and the less vague the questions pollster ask are, the more Americans dislike it—and that’s exactly why the administration is consigned to offer false choices and ugly insinuations.
.
Would Schumer lose his bid to lead Senate Democrats in 2017? Doubtful. MoveOn.org announced a “donor strike,” but MoveOn.org has never moved anyone in any direction they weren’t already moving anyway. Senate Democrats have rarely come close to matching the hysterical tone used by Obama administration officials. The prevailing reason for this might be that these Senators are the ones who’ll have to deal with the political repercussions when Iran is completely clear of sanctions and free to cheat again.
.
But none of Schumer’s criticisms about this deal are new. We were all aware of the parameters months ago. It is seems implausible that Schumer, a powerful senior senator from New York, wouldn’t have been privy to many of negotiation details, or that he’d come to some big revelation about the Iranian regime’s nature this very week. A month ago, even a few weeks ago, his opposition might have had some serious impact. But it matters far less now that the Obama administration has framed any opposition to the deal as an attempt by Jewish Americans to lobby their way into a war.
At this point, Schumer is just trying to have it both ways: standing against the Iran nuclear deal while knowing full well it won’t make any difference.
