IF A NATION GOES TO WAR
it had better be prepared to win the thing—
at all costs.
Or else not fight it at all.
Stay at home and wait for your enemy to go from strength to strength
until you realize that any war now will be a close-run thing
that you dare not fight for fear of losing.
So you begin an endless and dreary series of negotiations,
all of which are manipulated by your sworn enemy.
You send him food and money and assistance
and still he threatens you with a holocaust,
brandishing his missiles and hinting that your western cities will be turned to ash.
This is nothing but absurdity plied upon absurdity.
It is a stunning indictment of the modern mentality
that we shirk from the level of violence necessary
to keep the world reasonably stable.
Foreign policy “problems” linger decade after decade—
Cuba, Korea, Darfur, Palestine, global terror—
causing untold sufferings for hundreds of millions human beings
when the solution has always been the proper use of force.
The military is not to be used for “nation building”
or bringing your enemy to the conference table
or “sending a signal” or gradual escalation.
It is to be used to destroy forever and evermore the enemies of your nation.
Period.
Take a lesson from Rome.
She brought to the Mediterranean world the 200 years of peace
known as the Pax Romana.
Never before and never since has the world seen such a long period of peace and stability.
It happened because of the Roman legions,
the finest and most lethal military ever seen outside of our own.
The picture below is worth a million words and will cost a million lives.
It shows everything that is wrong with dealing with a foe.
Eating, drinking, smiling, laughing and dancing
with a man who promises to turn your children into dust and ashes.
How much shame must a decent people endure?
